NACBA Houston 2012 Signup
Once you have registered:
On this page you have the opportunity to purchase additional meal/event tickets not inculded in your registration and to choose the workshops you plan to attend if you didn't do so during registration. Workshop registration is for general count and you many choose to change workshops after arriving at conference.
Meals and Events:If you chose one of our all-inclusive registration categories, you have already purchased tickets to six meal events for yourself: the opening event, four lunches, and the special event. If you chose a United Methodist or Presbyterian registration you have also already purchased tickets to the denominational events. If you chose a daily registration you have already purchased a lunch ticket for that day. Below you have the opportunity to purchase tickets for other events and to purchase tickets for family members and guests.
Here is how this works. Let's say you would like for your spouse and a child under 12 to attend the Friday special event with you. Find that event and click "Add to My Schedule." You will now see just to the right of the event's name that you have 1 ticket. You need 2 tickets for your guests, so now click "add tickets." This will bring up a window that allows you to select that you want 2 tickets. Click Purchase and you will see that you now have 2 tickets.
Workshops:Click on the word "Expand" to view all of the workshops for a particular workshop session. Hover you mouse over a title and you will see a brief description. When you click "Add to My Schedule" your screen will refresh. Please be patient.
Please note: Once you arrive at conference we do not require you to attend only those workshops for which you pre-registered. You are free to change your mind and attend any workshop. We ask you to pre-register to assist us with room assignments for the workshops.
When you reach the checkout screen, hover your mouse over the conference name and you will see a list of every ticket you purchased and every workshop for which you registered.
Once you have completed the registration process, if you wish to edit or change workshop selections, please contact the NACBA office at 800-898-8085.

A6 Can I Google Applicants? & HR Issues
Led by Joe Bontke
The risk of social media in the employment world is a relatively new fad and form of communication. With the popularity of Facebook and LinkedIn, employers can gain access to all sorts of information that would normally be "off limits" during an interview. Could this be creating a legal problem for employers? In this lively session EEOC's Joe Bontke will spell out the risks and offer some remedy for the new risk of social network "investigating" when an applicant has some "Google issues.” |

This session will focus on specific strategies a church can implement now to directly reduce health care plan costs. A former insurance industry insider will “translate” the jargon into plain language, tell the audience what the insurance companies won’t tell them, and provide the “right” questions to get the “right” answers. Often, people with disabilities find themselves on the fringes of the worship experience. Despite large print bulletins, wheelchair ramps, and automatic doors, people with disabilities frequently remain outside the reach of the church. Families with children with disabilities stay home from worship because it’s just not worth the hassle. This workshop provides an overview of some common “hidden” disabilities such as autism. Ways to support individuals with disabilities in their worship experience will be shared.

C9 Fraud in the Church • What the Survey Tells Us
Led by Verne Hargrave, CPA, CFE
Using survey results, this session assesses the depth of churches’ awareness of fraud and the extent of their readiness to confront it through proactive anti-fraud measures. At a minimum, the following questions will be addressed: What are the most popularly implemented anti-fraud measures? What essential anti-fraud measures are commonly ignored? What types of churches face the greatest risk? Drawing wisdom from the survey responses from their peers, churches will learn key elements in developing a sound fraud prevention program.

D1 Faith-Based Social Commerce (E)
Led by Darrell Myers (NCPG)
Social media in ministry is about facilitating interaction between you and your community. You are not at the hub of the network; you provide tools that encourage discussion amongst the members. Social commerce in ministry is about the use of social media to increase the potential of your Church. Using social media through the structure of social commerce becomes an effective strategy for your ministry and allows for information to travel at the cyclic rate.

D3 Strategic Thinking: How Did Jesus Do It? (R)
Led by Bill Wilsonh
In the midst of a multitude of methodologies, we will seek to recognize the ways Jesus articulated his vision of the future. We will note how he demonstrated it, taught it, and lived it. Our time will be spent recognizing the need for an organic model of visioning that takes seriously our context, our congregational DNA, and the invitation to be part of the mission of Christ. |

D5 Church Budgets and Church Growth
Led by Dr. Don House
This workshop features church growth and the composition of local church spending (e.g., programs, non-clergy staff, facilities expenditures from savings, and facilities expenditures from debt). It will present “growth budgets”—budget alignments among growing churches. It includes examinations of church debt and its impact upon church growth. Findings are based upon history of 37,000 local churches from 1990 through 2009. If growth is important, how a church spends its funds matters.

E6 Enhancing Ministry With Coaching Skills
Led by Gary Crowell, CPA, CCA
An effective ministry experience requires the use of quality communication. Life coaching is a powerful tool that seeks to draw ideas, solutions, and strategies out of the person(s) being coached which can be applied in their real life situations. Coaching skills create focus and awareness of possibilities which will lead to more effective choices and solutions. It is a “strength-based” thinking and action rather than a “weakness-based” or “fix-it” mentality.

E7 Should We Tap the Wisdom of the World?
Led by Mike Bonem
Based on his new book, In Pursuit of Great AND Godly Leadership, Mike Bonem addresses a question that vexes many ministry leaders: should we tap the wisdom of the world? Stated another way, “Is it possible for ministry leaders to use biblical AND secular leadership concepts in a way that keeps Christ • not the marketplace • at the center of their mission?” This workshop addresses the question with examples of that wisdom alongside biblical teaching and stories from successful ministry leaders. |

Led by Tim Cool

In church facility management, it is actually more of a mindset…that in turns leads to actions. “Going to the balcony” and scoping out the big picture and not just the activities that have been thrown at me. We are going to explore some of the critical areas of proactive thinking that must be done by whoever is leading the facility management of your facilities.
